SunNav

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 22, 2026

SunNav is a golf-cart GPS navigation app built for 55+ communities. This page explains what information SunNav collects, how it's used, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

The short version: SunNav has no user accounts and no backend server of its own. Your location, favorites, and preferences stay on your device. Crash reports are collected automatically to keep the app stable. Usage analytics are off by default and only run if you turn them on. We never sell your data.

Information We Collect

Location

SunNav uses your device's GPS location to show your position on the map and provide turn-by-turn navigation, including while the app is in the background during active navigation (so voice guidance keeps working if you switch apps or lock your phone). Location data is processed on your device and sent to our mapping and routing providers (see "Third-Party Services" below) only as needed to calculate routes and display maps. We do not store your location history on any server we control.

Contacts (Optional)

If you choose to use the "navigate to a contact" feature, SunNav requests access to your Contacts to look up saved addresses. This data is read and used entirely on your device to help you pick a destination — it is never uploaded or transmitted anywhere. You can deny or revoke this access at any time in iOS Settings without affecting the rest of the app.

Favorites, Community Selection & App Preferences

Saved favorites, your selected community, offline map downloads, and app settings are stored locally on your device. This information is not sent to us and is not accessible to us.

Purchase Information

SunNav is a one-time paid download, processed entirely through your Apple ID via Apple's App Store. We do not see or store your payment details — Apple handles billing directly, and we have no visibility into your purchase beyond what Apple reports in aggregate sales data.

Diagnostic & Crash Data

SunNav automatically sends crash and error reports using Sentry, so we can find and fix bugs. These reports include technical details like device model, OS version, app version, and the code path where an error occurred. We explicitly configure Sentry to never capture screenshots and to strip out any location data before it's sent.

Optional Usage Analytics

SunNav can optionally share anonymous, aggregated usage data (like which features are used) via PostHog, to help us understand what to improve. This is off by default. You can turn it on or off any time in Settings → Privacy → Analytics. When enabled, no personal information or precise location is ever included in these events.

Support Messages

If you use "Report an Issue" in Settings, or otherwise email us at [email protected], you're voluntarily sharing your email address and whatever you write, along with basic diagnostic info (app version, device model, iOS version, selected community) to help us troubleshoot. We use this only to respond to you and improve the app.

Third-Party Services

SunNav relies on a small number of trusted third-party services to function. Each processes a limited slice of data for a specific purpose, governed by their own privacy policies:

Service Purpose Data Involved
Mapbox Maps, turn-by-turn routing Location coordinates needed to render maps and calculate routes
OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) Road, crossing & parking data for your community Map area (bounding box) — no personal identifiers
Sentry Crash & error reporting Device/OS/app version, error details (no screenshots or location)
PostHog Optional usage analytics Anonymous feature-usage events — only if you opt in
Cloudflare Routing support emails Forwards messages sent to [email protected] to our inbox

What We Don't Do

Your Choices

Children's Privacy

SunNav is designed for residents of 55+ communities and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Data Retention

Since SunNav has no backend of its own, the vast majority of your data (location, favorites, preferences) simply lives on your device and is deleted when you delete the app. Diagnostic and optional analytics data held by our third-party providers is retained according to their own retention policies, generally on the order of months, and is not linked to your identity.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of SunNav after a change means you accept the updated policy.
